Ear styling: How to turn individual ear piercings into a harmonious overall look

A single ear piercing can look lovely. Several piercings can look even lovelier – if they complement each other.

That’s exactly what ear styling – also known as ‘ear curation’ – is all about.

Instead of looking at each piercing individually, ear styling involves considering the ear as a whole: Which piercings do you already have? What jewellery do you wear? What suits your anatomy? And how do you want your ear to look in the end?

After all, beautiful ear styling isn’t necessarily achieved by having as many piercings as possible. It’s achieved through a concept that suits you.

What is ear styling?

With ear styling, your ear is viewed as a whole.

Perhaps you already have several ear piercings but are no longer entirely happy with the combination. Perhaps you’d like to embark on your first proper ear project, or you already have a specific idea in mind but aren’t yet sure which piercings and jewellery would be suitable.

Together, we’ll look at:

• your individual ear anatomy

• your existing piercings and jewellery

• colours, shapes and sizes that you like

• possible new piercings

• and the long-term development of your ear jewellery

After all, not every piercing works the same on every ear. Anatomy is therefore a key part of any good ear styling.

Your ear doesn’t have to look like something off Pinterest

You’ve probably been there: you see a stunning ear styling on Instagram or Pinterest and immediately think, ‘That’s exactly how I want my ear to look!’

But you can’t simply apply the anatomy of someone else’s ear to your own. The shape of the ear, the available space and any existing piercings are different for everyone.

That’s why, when it comes to ear styling, we don’t simply copy a photo. We look at what your ear has to offer and use that to develop a look that suits you.

This could be a minimalist setup with just a few, perfectly coordinated pieces of jewellery, or an extensive ear project involving several piercings.

First the plan, then the piercings

Ear styling doesn’t have to be completed in a single session. On the contrary: many ear projects develop over a longer period of time.

If you already know that you’d like to have several piercings in your ear at some point, it’s worth planning ahead. Some positions can affect other piercings, and the future size and placement of the jewellery should also be taken into account.

That’s why, for a larger project, we may initially only insert one to three piercings and allow the ear to heal properly before continuing.

This way, your ear styling can grow step by step – whilst still following a shared concept right from the start.

The right jewellery makes all the difference

When it comes to ear styling, it’s not just about the piercing positions, of course. The jewellery also influences the overall look.

Gold or silver? Simple designs or eye-catching stones? Small and understated, or perhaps a real statement piece?

It’s not just the individual pieces of jewellery that matter, but also how they work together. A more eye-catching piece can, for example, become the focal point, whilst smaller pieces provide balance.

And sometimes, you don’t need a new piercing at all to create a new look. Simply changing the jewellery in piercings that have already healed can completely transform the look of an ear.

We can also incorporate your existing jewellery into the design.

How much does an ear styling session cost at nakedsteel?

At nakedsteel, we set aside a full hour for your ear styling session. The appointment costs €50.

If you then decide to go ahead with a project with a total value of at least €300, the €50 will be credited towards that project.

This gives you plenty of time to plan your ear styling at your own pace, ask any questions and work with us to develop a jewellery and piercing concept.
